Knowledge & Experience
Automatic fire sprinkler systems have a proven track record and IFSS are proud to incorporate them into our fire protection packages. Using fire sprinklers as part of a wider fire protection strategy can often have a valuable impact on other parts of the building design such as compartmentation fire rating, fire escape travel distances and the number of fire fighting shafts.

The most widely used is the wet type fire sprinkler system which is installed in buildings where there is no possibility of the water freezing within the pipework. Each head is activated individually by the heat created by the fire. As the head operates, water is sprayed onto the seat of the fire. Quick response heads are hugely effective at suppressing a fire and are designed to operate earlier in a fire situation.

Domestic & Residential Systems
For over 150 years, fire sprinklers have been used to protect commercial and industrial buildings. The value of fire sprinklers to residential and domestic systems is being increasingly recognised.  In 2006, Approved document B of the building regulations (in England & Wales) stated the importance of automatic fire sprinkler systems in preventing fire spread and increasing occupant safety dramatically.

Fire sprinklers provide further benefits to fire fighter safety and modern, fast-response heads, deliver additional benefits to life safety too. As well as raising the alarm, fire sprinklers can save vulnerable persons who may otherwise be unable to escape.

Accommodating an architect’s vision for a building can often be problematic when it comes to providing suitable fire protection. In many circumstances, fire sprinklers have been adopted as a compensating feature, often providing substantial cost savings where the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) has approved the solution.

Sustainability is, quite rightly, now woven into the fabric of building specifications and designs, resulting in non-traditional building resources such as recycled materials or timber being used in construction. In these circumstances fire sprinklers play a vital role in protecting life and the building.

Cost effective, very reliable and a green solution, fire sprinklers offer added value to specifiers, building owners and occupants alike.
